Foam Roller Wars!

I am obsessed with foam rollers. As a gym-rat I constantly find myself sore and in need of a massage (I wish I could afford weekly massages) and my physical therapist recommended I get a foam roller.

I did some research and bought a high density foam roller off amazon.com. It wasn’t long enough for me to roll both legs at once and it was too hard to use on my spine/back.  That being said, it did the trick at the time.

Next time around and I decided to spend a little more money. I found the Live Infinitely foam roller and the difference was huge

The Live Infinitely foam roller is firm but a little gentler on my bones. It is not quite as painful to use. My absolutely favorite part of this foam roller is the ridges all around. The ridge down the center allows my spine to not feel pressure when rolling my back.  I will say the other high density foam roller was able to get deeper for my patellar tendonitis but I am not sure that was worth the pain it caused on other body parts when rolling them out.

Overall would I say the Live Infinitely roller is worth $14 more? Yes because it’s longer (meaning you can roll both legs at the same time) and gentler on bones/spine. For those reasons alone I think it’s worth the price difference.

I received this product at a discounted rate from Live Infinitely for quality testing purposes. This in no way influenced my review (trust me, look at my past reviews).

Battle of the (Belly) Bands

Welp, this item is great in theory but does not work.

This is my favorite support belt and I have purchased 4 over the past 2 months.

My favorite features of this are as follows (and compared to other brands):
1. Breathable material means less back sweat (hey I live in the south so this is a big bonus).
2. Soft material doesn’t irritate my skin–2 of the 4 that I have purchased have had rough, itchy material that made wearing the belt without a tank underneath it torture.
3. Wide straps–another belly band I got was too narrow almost like an ace bandage.
4. Adjustable strap–I didn’t have to buy a certain size and go up as I grow, this is truly one size fits all.

Overall I was extremely pleased (finally!) with this product and would recommend it over everything else I have ordered.

Holy boning, ouch!

This maternity support belt was a painful experiment in self control (to rip this off my flesh or not, that is the question). The boning is sturdy…too sturdy, it kept jabbing my skin and back! I really wanted to like this product but between the rough material and the sharp boning, I could not get on board.

TFNUO Solar Powered LED Light

Welp, this item is great in theory but does not work.

I tried on multiple occasions to charge the battery in the sun to no avail. I would recommend the kind of solar LED lights that you can just stick in the grass, I have a set of those from Lowe’s that work great.

Wifi Baby Cam

As a soon-to-be mom I was so excited to try out this baby camera. I run on constant anxiety so the fact that I could have a baby cam where I could see and hear the baby while he/she sleeps instantly appealed to me.

The package arrived quickly and the instructions are really clear.

img_4915

I followed the directions and BOOM! Baby cam set up and working! My main issue is that the “alarm” setting is not clear. I set the alarm for motion sensor and kept trying to set it off to see if it worked and even frantically waving my hands in front of the camera did not set it off. For the price ($59.99 with amazon prime) I would hope that all of its functionalities work. That being said, I cannot guarantee that this feature did not work due to user error.  An FAQ or troubleshooting section would certainly have been helpful in using this item.

So would I recommend it? Meh, not necessarily, I would recommend shopping around for one that works more effectively.

Although I received this product at a discount rate in exchange for my honest review the opinion herein is mine 1000% and in no way influenced by anyone or anything.

MDUB Medical Achilles Wrap

This strap arrived a bit later than I had wanted but I don’t blame the seller, more amazon.com shipping (is it just me or has the shipping kind of sucked lately??). The strap itself is smooth neoprene and fits well as it’s adjustable.

I have not tried many other straps but using this for tennis I found that it moved up and down my ankle a lot which defeated it’s achilles purpose. It would move up my leg and down my leg so much that I had to take it off at one point.

This is probably a strap that’s best used for walking or weight lifting but not anything too vigorous or sweat.

Umbrella Wars!

This week’s review is comparing the Clongi Folding Umbrella to the Crown Coast Heavy Duty Umbrella.

Why do umbrellas matter, you ask? Well, if you’re anything like me you wait until there’s a thunderstorm before realizing you need one, then you go buy one for $10 at CVS, it breaks after a few uses and you forget about it until it rains again.  One year (I won’t say what year and date myself but we still used ethernet cables and didn’t have smartphones) I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond and bought an “as seen on TVumbrella  which turned inside out during a storm while I was in college in the middle of the quad, embarassing me and making me look like a total derp.

SO, I decided to do some research and rather than spend $10 in increments several times a year, I wanted to spend a sum of money ONCE for a good umbrella. This lead me to the two I’m looking at today.

At first glance both umbrellas seem pretty standard.

img_4850-3

Nothing about either item screamed out that it was glaringly better. Each weighs about a pound, each expands and retracts with the push of a button.

The Crown Coast umbrella feels a little cloogier when opening and it’s harder to wrangle shut. However, it has a smoother handle with contoured gripping which is a nice luxury on an umbrella.

img_4851-2

The Clongi one is smoother to open and close but it’s not available in as many colors.

img_4852-2

The real test came in the rain. It was not windy during our last rain so I was not able to test out the wind portion YET, but I did notice that the Clongi umbrella felt noticeably sturdier.  What I mean is the pelting of the rain shook the handle less than the Crown Coast umbrella. Furthermore, at $10 less in price, the Clongi umbrella is the way to go. I will keep this post updated 1. when it rains and 2. if one breaks! For now the Clongi umbrella is the winner of this battle.

WonderEsque Spiralizer v. Spiral Slicer

I have been in search of a good spiralizer for a LONG time.  A friend recommended the spiral slicer which is now 15.84 on amazon.com (funny it was 9.95 just 6 months ago).  This spiralizer is the worst! It was flimsy and was not able to spiralize anything other than a zucchini.  It ended up breaking after I tried to spiralize a butternut squash (while following directions, mind you!). Amazon is pretty great and gave me a full refund.

A friend told me to look into a more heavy-duty spiralizer because I want to do denser vegetables. That’s when I decided to get the WonderEsque Spiralizer.

This spiralizer is fantastic! It definitely feels more heavy-duty so I was confidant that it could handle more than the other guy.

I was able to spiralize a zucchini in literally less than 2 minutes.

img_4776

It comes with 3 different blades that slide in like a guillotine, each able to slice veggies in a different way/shape.  In addition to being very sharp, using the guillotine pieces makes the user feel like Joffrey from Game of Thrones!

This spiralizer is now only $7 more than the one I bought before and it’s 1000% worth the extra money.

AILIHEN Headphones

Finally a pair of over-the-ear headphones that won’t break the bank!

Let me begin by saying I have tried Beats by Dre and other high end brands and I always had issues. Either one side of the headphones would stop working or they weren’t comfortable.

I ordered these and was immediately please by the color, which matched the description, the comfort of the fit and the sound.

img_4728

My only 2 complaints, and I say only, are that 1. they don’t fold away for easy travel (which is what I use them for) and 2. the sound isn’t as loud as I hoped it would be (although this could be a good thing so I don’t go prematurely deaf)

PrepRX Portion Control Tupperware

It seems like everywhere I look lately I see ads for portion control tupperware.  This is especially big now with new workout regimes like the 21 Day Fix.

Although I brush off most trends like this as a fad I realized that portion control is not such a bad idea.  Although I eat pretty healthy, I know that portions do matter including ones that have been banned as evil (hello carbs, how I love thee!)

So I bought the Prep RX Portion Control Containers.

img_4604

The first thing I thought when I got the tupperware was “wow, these are bigger than I thought they’d be!

img_4627

I was able to put a decent sized salad on one side, carrots to snack on in another and my protein (undecided) in the last.

The tupperware feels flimsy, like disposable containers you get from a restaurant. Although these are microwave-safe, I do not know if I would feel comfortable exposing the thin plastic to any heat.

I also do not know what goes where. The 3 compartments are different sized and I am not sure which goes where in terms of carb v. protein (I assumed that the veggies go in the biggest compartment but could be wrong).

For $15.99 these aren’t a bad deal especially because they come with a Lifetime Warranty and they can definitely help you visualize the portions (I was off when it came to protein, whoops!)

1byone 5GHz Wireless HDMI Streaming Media Player

This product is great in theory! Sometimes I want to watch something on my TV that I only have access to via an app on my phone.  This device seemed like the perfect fit because I currently have binge watched all of The Americans and the newest episodes are on my phone but not my TV.

I got this product in a timely fashion and I noticed right off the bat that the instructions kind of sucked.

hdmi

I downloaded the EZCast app and the instructions there were much clearer.

But then some issues started. I got connected, everything said it was connected but when I pulled up something on my phone it would not display on my TV. It could definitely be user error but I tried everything, even just pulling up pictures on my phone.

I really like the idea of this and I will continue playing around with it and post updates if I can get it working.

I did get this product at a discount rate in exchange for my honest review but that has 0 impact on my review which is 1000% mine and no one else’s.

Zenwise Vitmains

I will begin this review by saying these are not prenatal vitamins. It is important to be aware that Prenatal Vitamins should be high in folic acid and iron.  Folic acid is critical to prevent neural tube defects and other severe birth defects.  Therefore, please note these are not prenatals and do not discontinue taking your prenatals if you purchase these.

These vitamins contain:

– 2000 IU of Vitamin D3
– 150mg of EPA
– 450mg of DHA

These are good supplements to have pregnant, or not. I would add them to your daily vitamin, especially since so many women nowadays are deficient in Vitamin D.

These vitamins smell kind of bad, but one other amazon reviewer suggested refrigerating them which helped a lot.  They do not upset my stomach like other vitamins but that is because these do not contain iron.

Overall these are a good supplement to add to your diet I would not change or remove anything in lieu of these.

18k White Gold Plated Cushion Halo Cubic Zirconia

It’s almost summer and I don’t know about you but my fingers swell every single summer.

Not many people are aware of this but resizing your jewelry too often can damage it.  The reason is that to resize a rring, the jewelry must cut the band.  Once they are done increasing/decreasing the ring size, the ring is smoldered back together where the cut was made. THIS is where the issue is, the place where it was cut becomes like a fault line and is therefore weaker and more susceptible to breakage.

SO rather than get my engagement ring resized every summer I decided to look into a faux-substitute.  I went onto amazon.com and found a few different options but one of my favorites was this ring.

img_4424

As soon as it arrived I was impressed. It looks real enough to wear to daily events.

Sitting next to my real engagement ring (the one on the left) the difference was more apparent. However, it is a good substitute.

img_4426

My BIGGEST ISSUE with this ring (and it’s a big one) is that it is not stamped.

What does that mean? It means it might not really be 18k gold plated. If a piece of jewelry is gold plated it will be stamped with the karats (ex. 18k) and the initials G.P. signifying that it is gold plated.

I take issue with a product that advertises itself as something that it is not and for that reason I would say this ring is not worth the money. If it was $10 maybe, but you can get gold plated at Macys for a little more money.

Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix

As many of you know (just kidding, no one knows anything about me!) I am from Louisiana.  Lately, I have been craving some OG beignets. I even suggested a weekend trip to New Orleans, which my husband immediately declined because it’s a 7 hour drive (I argued that I could do it in 5).

Instead, I went on amazon.com and bought some mix. Price-wise, big mistake. At World Market they are $7.98 for TWO boxes, at amazon they are over $9 for ONE MEASLEY BOX.

img_4388

Back to the cooking part–The directions say cook in oil so I used a mix of safflower and coconut oil. At first I followed the directions and made 2 and 3/4 in pieces and they were too flat and not fluffy.

img_4389

The second batch I let the oil get hotter and made the dough more like balls.  This was perfection.

img_4390

I took them off heat and immediately put them on paper towels to soak the extra oil and topped them with powdered sugar.

unnamed

Ta-da!  Moral of the story is, get the mix at World Market, not amazon.com, and tweak as you cook because I think the type of oil you use affects the cooking, too.

La-Chef BBQ Grill Mat

This week I tried out the L-Chef Grill mat multi-pack.
IMG_4368.JPG
While I was fond of the grill mats themselves, I was interested to try the whole thing.  I was most intrigued by the baking mat.
IMG_4369.JPG
I put the baking mat over a cookie sheet because the mat is very thin and flimsy. I decided to roast some asparagus on it. The sheet is flexible and I was excited to try it out.
IMG_4371.JPG
Read to go! Now these mats can be use at heats up to 480 degrees farenheight.
So while the asparagus were cooking I was paranoid that the sheet would burn. I kept looking in the oven thinking I’d see the sheet on fire, but nothing!
Don’t these guys look good? They tasted good, too! The mat was great because there was no sticking, not even the melted parmesan stuck to it!
IMG_4372-0.jpg
But once I put away the asparagus I noticed a flaw–the mat was porous meaning all of the olive oil and asparagus juice leaked right through onto the pan:
IMG_4374.JPG
This meant that I had to clean both the cookie sheet and the baking mat, thereby defeating the purpose of using the mat to minimize clean up.
I will say the mats are as easy to clean as the instructions say. Overall, I was happy with the grill mats and the baking mat, I just felt like the baking mat was not as functional.
I would recommend the grill mats over everything else because they really help prevent meat from falling into the fire. Especially when you’re making kabobs and want everything to stay on the skewers and not fall in.

YOLO Ponytail Headband

I workout 6 days a week and I only wash my hair 1-2x/week. Don’t say “ew!” so judgmentally! I have dry, coarse hair!

YOLO1

So with my workout schedule and hair-washing regimen I was in desperate need of something like this.

I opened the package and saw that there was a place to pull my ponytail through. At first I tried it on wrong and thought “dang that’s a really high ponytail”. Then I turned it the right way.

YOLO4

It fits well but there’s a lot of extra material. Maybe my head is too small, I’m not sure. I love the material, it’s sweat wicking which is perfect for workouts.

I would say my main complaint is that the ponytail hole is too low. I want my hair off my neck when I workout, not down low and brushing my neck/shoulders.

The extra material also tugs on my hair making it hard to focus on my workout.

YOLO3

I think with some small modifications this headband would be awesome but the way it is now, it’s not my favorite.

ActionFly Portable Mini 3.5mm Jack 4 LED Selfie Light

I love the idea behind this light. I know all celebrities use special selfie lights so when I saw this I wanted in!

Flash2  Flash3

Again, I love the idea of this light. It’s small, compact, and does not block your headphone jack (it has a headphone jack in it).  But this item did not work. I reached out to the seller and they promised to replace it but did not follow through.

I have read other reviews so I know other people have good experiences, I am just not one of them I guess!
